Victorian Government Smart Water Fund
From 3 March 2011, The Smart Water Fund is inviting applications to share in up to $1 million in new funding for innovative Water projects as part of its Open Innovation Stream. Applications are open to businesses, research institutions and individuals across Australia, and the funding will support projects that investigate new technologies and approaches to Water management, and demonstrate a benefit to Victoria's Water industry. Generally, the Smart Water Fund will consider applications in the range of $100,000 - $500,000 and projects should deliver knowledge, products or solutions that: a. contribute to sustainable urban Water management, and b. are valuable to the Victorian Water utilities and the customers they serve.

WCG Receives QLD Eco Cluster Award
Queensland Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Kate Jones, congratulated Guenter Hauber-Davidson MD of Water Conservation Group for successfully leading a business cluster at the Logan Hyperdome. The project, launched by the Minister in March last year, has so far saved over 17,300 kL in water through a world first smart metering program coupled with intensive user education and water management initiatives.

New Web Portal for Water Efficiencies
A new Australian Government web portal on water efficiency opportunities for virtually all business sectors is now publically available on the Commonwealth Government's Water Efficiency Opportunities Program web site These business and institutional best practice case studies have all achieved 50-90% reductions in potable water consumption. This web portal seeks to provide businesses and water professionals with a "one-stop-shop" for information on planning and implementing water efficiency opportunities across all sectors.

WME Smart Metering at the Mall
Some 24 Queensland businesses have found a smart way to achieve substantial water savings in one of the state's largest shopping centres through an integrated smart metering technology initiative. The Water Conservation Group initiated the Logan Hyperdome Water Save Program last year and has established on site assessments and supporting action plans to save 5 ML a year in water savings.
